NATIONAL TRUFFLE DAY – When I first read that it is truffle day, I immediately thought that we would be celebrating the strange little fungii that grow in the ground near tree roots. You know, the ones whose oil has become insanely popular in gourmet cooking.
But sadly no, it is the chocolate truffle we are celebrating. I only say it is sad because I have a good savoury truffle story. I will save it for another time.
Fortunately, I find chocolate truffles to be delicious although incredibly sweet. The first recorded truffle was created in 1895 but they became truly popularized in 1902 by the Prestat Chocolate Shop in London.
This shop still produces the original Napolean III truffle. Road trip anyone?
