March 1st

TODAY IS:

NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER LOVER’S DAY – My name is Lisa, and I am a Peanut Butter Lover.  I LOVE peanut butter!  I have a spoonful every night before bed as a snack.  I am not much of a bread person so i just dig in with a spoon.  I am sure my husband loves that about me.  I don’t ask.

Peanut butter can be joined with many food for some tasty treats.  I love the combination of peanut butter and bananas, chocolate, or even celery.  Dear daughters have been known to have it on burgers at The Works.

I still have my mom’s Peanut Butter Cookie recipe that she wrote by hand when I was in Grade 2.  Our teacher published a booklet of everyone’s favourite recipes.  They were mimeographed on pink paper and have purple ink.  I can almost smell the ink on my original copy.  Hmmmm …. I could totally make those cookies today ….

NATIONAL PIG DAY – I am hoping to see a pig parade today because my sources tell me that this is how Pig Day might be celebrated.  Anyone having a pig party to celebrate this intelligent animal?  I’ll bring snacks … peanut butter snacks.

NATIONAL FRUIT COMPOTE DAY – Fruit compote originated in the 17th century in France.  It is said that this syrupy fruit dish was developed as a way to balance humidity in the body but I wonder if it was truly a way to deal with aging fruit.  Originally served in the afternoon with sour cream and biscuits, fruit compote includes the flavours from spice and peels.  It’s kind of like the modern day fruit cup.  Enjoy!

NATIONAL HORSE PROTECTION DAY – My horse owning friends celebrate this every day, housing and care for these magnificent creatures.  There are many unwanted horses on this continent and those who have the means to adopt, are encouraged to do so.  In my next life, I will own lots of horses … lots of horses.

ASH WEDNESDAY – For those of you who are celebrating, today is the beginning of Lent, a day of fasting and prayer and the beginning of 40 days (not including Sundays) of forsaking sinful activities.  Amen.
